The more things change, the more things stay the same

I have not had the time to write down my thoughts lately as I am preparing to move my family across the country to Washington State. I am being transferred to Tacoma, Washington. I have to report way the fuck up there in 2 weeks, so this may be my last post for a while. I hate the fact that I have to leave my house and friends here in Dallas, but duty calls people. I gotta do what I gotta do  to keep my paper flowing. It's hard out here for a pimp. I have grown to love Dallas, but it is what it is.

Anyways....

There has been a lot of talk lately about race in this country as of late.

And all of them have been very blatant, in your face, 1950, type racism.

The little baby getting slapped on the airplane.
The redneck refusing care for his newborn because the attending nurse was a Black Female..
Actor Alec Baldwin calling a reporter a drug dealing coon.
Forrest Whittaker being accused of stealing in a New York high end bodega.

I am pretty sure there are thousands of similar stories around the country that the media will not report.
Why am I not surprised?

I have been black for 40 years.

I have been harassed by the police, called nigga by rednecks zooming through my neighborhood, been in race related fights at school, been followed around stores, denied loans, given unusual high interest rates on other loans even though having good credit scores, suspended from school when I questioned why the White students laughed whenever we had to read Huckleberry Finn out loud in class and Jim was called a nigga, been told by teachers that Football was the best career choice for me even though I was an A-B student...etc etc...

So there is not much I can say that I have not seen when it comes to the hypocrisy of certain people in this country of ours.

But then I have to hear from a few of my White friends that America is different now and that we; Blacks, need to just move on.. not everything is race related.

I have to listen to the bullshit "coded" comments about the President and try not to slap the shit out of people that tell me that they only disagree with his policies.

So the incidents I have described above do not surprise me.

Not in the least bit.

As a matter of fact; I expect them.

And that is a damn shame.

They are transferring you to Washington State? From Texas?

Holy crud! Talk about a change of scenery and weather...

Be careful up there. From what I have read the Pacific Northwest is prime ground for Aryan Nations/National Socialist types. Well in the countryside I guess, the cities are supposedly quite liberal.

Can we get an inkling on why they are moving you halfway across the country? Or is it "professional secret" class stuff you can't discuss on a blog?

The news items you liked to are hilarious, in a "dark humor" way. It is like scenes out of a bad sitcom. If it makes you feel any better things are going apeshit in most of Western Europe too. This damn crisis if driving everyone nuts! I have read things on our national news I didn't believe possible, all the indicators of societal collapse are going into the red zone. I will be happy if we make it out of this without a war in Europe or the USA.

Anyway...as for your white friends I'd say they are partly right and mostly wrong.

Yes, America is different now, but it is worse and turning for the worst, not the other way around.

Blacks *do* need to move on, in some issues (as you indicated in previous posts) but if your buddies are telling you that Obama is like a magic wand that someone waved and things are now going to be kumbaya-awesome, then perhaps you should find new white friends with a greater braincell count.

They are right that not *everything* in America is race related, only about 80%-90% of it. If they can't notice that...well, I don't know what to say. I mean, I don't even live there and I know that, how can they not?

I feel you are being unfair however, about the bullshit "coded" comments about the President. The truth is it isn't permissible or advisable under the current system for a white person to say he prefers a white president to a non-white one without getting demonized and possibly loosing job and career. Which is kind of bullshit on itself. I mean, blacks and chicanos had seethed for years under the fact every commander-in-chief since George Washington was white, and when a mulatto finally gets elected they are out dancing on the streets. Why the heck can't a white be honest and state in public that, yes, he prefers a leader of his own race, culture, religion, etc, just like everyone else apparently does?

Some whites may genuinely not give a sh*t about Obama's race and really dislike his policies. And then, of course, there's the poor white bastards who don't like having a mulatto for president AND hate his policies. What a "twofer" he? I have enough discernment to realize that this last category of whites is now in a similar position, politically speaking, to that of many non-whites before Obama became president and I'd bet most of them never gave a toss you guys endured white president after white president whose policies you detested.

Still, I wouldn't deny those whites the right to bitch and moan about it outright. I hate having to deal with euphemisms and code-words. I rather have upfront, honest disagreements than fiddling around with political correct metaphors.

Again Red, be careful up there in Tacoma, and all the best to you and yours.

Man you know the racism train is never late.

I flew to Seattle a couple of years ago and then to a city called Pasco, Washington from there. That was a tiny 'burg for sure. I don't believe that I could have lived there, but I'm sure that Tacoma would be much better. There's gotta be at least a couple of hundred thousand people there and it's not that far from Seattle.

I hate moving, but hey.....try and enjoy Tacoma. I'm sure there are at least 3 or 4 brothers that live there.

Vagr,
Thanks bro for the well wishes. Fucking Tacoma Wa! Oh well..I knew the job was dangerous when I took it. Black americans do need to getover a lot of the bulshit we gripe about, but its hard as hell to do that when we are reminded everyday by stupid people exactly what they think our worth in this country is. Not everything is race related, but it damn near seems that most everything is. I wish that this were a true color blind society but if by some miracle color became a non issue we stupid ass humans would find some other way to elevate another "culture"..it would turn into brown eyed people over blue eyed people...or blond hair over red hair..I think it is in our nature to hate what's different.

Reggie,
Yeah..I'm being sent to Ft.Lewis..so I'm pretty sure that there are going to be more than a couple of brothers up there. A lot of people I've talked to have said that they liked it. The biggest shock for me is going to be the damn drastic weather change..but it is what it is.

Hi from a long-time lurker and first-time commentator...I discovered you on Brotha Wolf's blog a while back, and wanted to share some pros and cons about residing in the PacNW.

Yes, it rains here - a LOT - but the beauty that the rain brings cannot be denied! When you wake up in the morning and the 'mountain is out' it takes your breath away.

Douchebag rednecks abound here - they might be a SLIGHTLY different breed from those in Texas, but not by much: evolution is slow, if not non-existent, with that sort!

Otherwise, get used to the 'aroma of Tacoma' when the wind is just right - and you'll be around decent brothas and sistas, so you won't be alone.

I live on the peninsula and love the storms - I can be found flying a kite, or cruising on my bike ith my fiancee. Drop some love on my page if you're so inclined...and may I just say welcome to the Evergreen State!
